Stable Hand Mandatory Training (Racing)


Up to 10 days depending on knowledge and practical experience


Training and assessment will take place throughout the year as required by each individual student. Groups in the workplace can be catered for.

The Dates stated above are not compulsory and can be organised to be mutually convenient for students. Please contact Lisa Coffey on 0355644746 to email to discuss.

Dates will be advertised regularly for on campus training and assessment for students with no horse handling experience.

NOTE: You must complete a compulsory pre-training review before commencing this course


- Photo identification (including your date of birth) must be provided at the training

- Medicare Card

Enrolment Requirements:

-You must complete a compulsory pre-training review and language, literacy and numeracy quiz (PTR/LLN) before attending class.

Prior to your enrolment a PTR/LLN review will be conducted with you to confirm that the course you are seeking to enrol into meets your individual needs. The link will be emailed to you upon your booking. Failure to complete the pre-training review before class will incur a $20 administration fee for a booking cancellation or transfer.

What You Learn

How to work with and handle race horses safely in your job role as a stable hand.

What You Get

Practical and theoretical training in safe handling of race horses including fitting gear, leading and occupational health and safety requirements when working in a stable.

Upon successful completion of assessment you will receive a Statement of Attainment which will enable you to apply for a Stable Employee License with Racing Victoria

Materials to Bring

Please ensure to bring your Licence or photo ID and Medicare Card.

Dress Code

Appropriate clothing for the weather, shoes or boots that are covered in and will offer your foot protection if a horse stands on you. Gloves are recommended.


In order to be eligible to work in a racing stable in Victoria, each employee or potential employee must complete Mandatory Training as set by Racing Victoria (RV). These units are two units from the Certificate II in Racing (Stable Hand) qualification.
