OHS FOR YOU AND YOUR WORKPLACE – A REFRESHER

A chance to re-evaluate the ways to maintain a safe workplace environment

This course provides you with an opportunity to refresh your knowledge, skills and confidence as a Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) or Deputy HSRs (DepHSRs), to enable you to carry out your role within the workplace.

This is a WorkSafe Victoria (WorkSafe) approved course for workplace HSRs and DepHSRs.

The broad purpose of the course is to refresh HSR knowledge, skills and confidence that enables you to perform your rights and exercise your knowledge and powers for the purposes of representing members of your Designated Work Group (DWG) and to help make your workplace safer.

Content

The course content is based on selected components and the learning objectives from the HSR Initial OHS Training Course (previously named Initial 5 Day OHS Course for HSRs, Managers and Supervisors Course).

These learning objectives will enable you to:

  • Interpret the Occupational Health and Safety legislative framework and its relationship to the HSR

  • Identify key parties and their legislative obligations and duties

  • Establish representation in the workplace

  • Participate in consultation and issue resolution

  • Represent designated work group members in any OHS risk management process undertaken by the appropriate duty holder/s

  • Issue a Provisional Notice (PIN) and Directing the Cessation of Work

Entitlements (Under the OHS Act 2004 Section 67)

If your employer is requested to, they must allow an elected HSR and elected Deputy HSR to attend a WorkSafe approved HSR Initial OHS Training Course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs. Section 67 also allows HSRs to choose the approved training course they attend in consultation with their employer.

Delivery

This is an approved training course for Holmesglen Institute to deliver on behalf of South West TAFE and is conducted by a WorkSafe approved trainer.

Holmesglen Institute is an approved WorkSafe provider, able to deliver the Initial OHS Training Course and issue attendance certificates to participants who successfully complete the training.
