What You Learn

The process of making game art and incorporating that art into an interactive game level

- How to paint a character in Photoshop

- How to construct a 3D model of the character in 3D Studio Max

- How to bring that 3D model into the Unity Game engine

What You Get

Specialist knowledge in painting a character in Photoshop, to constructing a 3D model of the character then bringing that 3D model in the Unity Game engine. All taught by experts from the Swinburne University of Design, Media & ICT team in partnership with South West TAFE.

Description

Our instructors will take you through the process of making game art and incorporating that art into an interactive game level. From painting a character in Photoshop, to constructing a 3D model of the character in 3D Studio Max, then bringing that 3D model into the Unity Game engine.

Day 1 - Monday 10 July

Take an existing simple outline of a robot and paint in Photoshop, add realism and visual interest to the help bring the robot to life:

  • Using and managing layers
  • Various selection methods
  • Paint brushes to give flat shapes volume and form
  • How to create texture using different brush styles
  • The effects of brush opacity and flow
  • Layer blending models

Day 2 - Tueday 11 July

Import your painting into 3D Studio Max where various techniques and tools will be used to make an accurate 3D model of the robot.

This will be achieved:

  • Using standard and extended primitives
  • Various modifiers; for example edit poly
  • Material editor; introduction to compact and slate
  • Introduction to various rendering engines

Day 3 - Wednesday 12 July

Import the robot model into the Unity Game engine. In Unity, you will learn how to customise various coded elements and assets of an existing game level.
