Prerequisites

Basic sewing machine skills

Minimum entry age of 16 years old. 

What You Learn

·         Free-motion machine embroidery techniques

·         Sewing machine set-up

·         Stitch samplers

·         Cutback technique

·         Applique technique

·         Drawing with the machine

·         Create original designs

·         Transferring designs onto cloth

What You Get

Design and create your own personal piece

Materials to Bring

Photo ID to the trainer on the first day of the course

General – scissors, pins, pens, paper

Embroidery hoop: cane or plastic hand embroidery ones are fine (approx. 25 cms)

One spool of thread per student is provided - you are required to provide additional thread - Ordinary sewing machine cotton or poly cotton, matt appearance. Guterman and Sew Easy are good. (not needed week one)

(Avoid ‘machine embroidery’ threads these are usually rayon which is very lustrous. Also avoid old, sun damaged or cheap thread which is very prone to break.)

Sewing machines are provided

If you bring along your own it does need to be a model that you can disengage the feed dogs or has a darning plate, along with a darning or free-motion embroidery sewing foot that fits your machine.

Description

This course provides you with an introduction to the basic techniques of free-motion machine embroidery, a simple but highly versatile way to draw with your sewing machine (also known as freehand embroidery).  

In this course, our experienced trainer will help develop your creative skills in a variety of free-motion machine embroidery techniques and once you have mastered the basics, you will design and create your own personal piece.
