Prerequisites

Safe Food Handling

Safe Food Handling short course (or the equivalent unit) is a competency standard requirement of the Warrnambool City Council.  It is recommended that you undertake that training prior to completing Food Safety for Supervisors.

If the Safe Food Handling course (or equivalent unit) was not completed by you at South West TAFE, please contact the Short Course Team on 1300 648 911, as proof of certification from another training provider must be presented prior to enrolment.

You must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). You can apply or get more information at www.usi.gov.au.

Photo identification (including your date of birth).

What You Learn

How to successfully implement a food safety program, together with information on relevant legislation and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) Tool.

What You Get

Knowledge in how to implement a compliant food safety program.

Upon successful completion, you’ll also receive credit and certification for the following accredited unit from SIT30813 - Certificate III in Commercial Cookery:

SITXFSA201 - Participate in safe food handling practices

The above unit applies to all tourism, hospitality and catering organisations with permanent or temporary kitchen premises or smaller food preparation areas. This includes restaurants, cafes, clubs, hotels, tour operators, attractions, function, event, exhibition and conference caterers, educational institutions, aged care facilities, correctional centres, hospitals, defence forces, cafeterias, kiosks, canteens, fast food outlets, residential caterers, in-flight and other transport caterers.

Description

FOOD SAFETY TRAINING FOR YOUR BUSINESS/ORGANISATION

Become familiar with the relevant industry standards

Victoria's food industry is strictly governed by a set of regulations, including the Food Act 1984. Anybody who runs a food related business needs to be well-versed with the relevant standards.

  • Follow food safety program
  • Store food safely
  • Prepare food safely
  • Provide safe single use items
  • Maintain a clean environment
  • Dispose of food safely

Accreditation

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive credit and certification for the following accredited unit from SIT30813 - Certificate III in Commercial Cookery:

SITXFSA201 - Participate in safe food handling practices

You’ll Need a Unique Student Identifier

To study any nationally recognised training in Australia, you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Your USI links to an online account that contains your training records and all results for any training you’ve completed after 1 January 2015.

With a USI you’ll always have easy access to your training records and results – this will simplify applying for jobs or enrolling in further study.

You must have a USI when you enrol.
